Job Hunting

I'm relocating to the North Shore area which means I need to get a new job. I already applied to GAP and I'm inquiring about a position at Crunchy Granola Baby. I'm planning to work part-time until I can secure a full time job. Hope things go well.

Life sucks

Just when things are getting better, life gets harder. I hate it. Thank goodness for music and friends. What will I do without them. Also, thank goodness for nice bosses who will try to help you when I'm in need. Rita and Ahmad both helped me in soo many ways, especially Ahmad. Gotta love them.

The only way to survive is to persevere, work hard, and have faith in what you do and love.

I'm loving fall

The best time of the year is definitely October. I mean fall starts in September, but it doesn't start getting crisp outside till October. I love how the leaves change. The foliage is soooo nice to look at. I love all the smells and tastes of autumn. Pumpkin, apple, nutmeg, cinnamon, etc = yummmmy! The weather is just right to wear a cozy sweater or a comfy sweatshirt. I love cuddling in the fall too ^__^. Hopefully we have a decent winter, the not too frigid and not too stormy ones.

Job Hunting

So, I've been job hunting for a full time job since like February/March. I'm getting no where. I have a part-time job for now but Brigham's isn't doing too well so I'm looking for another part-time job just in case Brigham's goes under.

I've thinking about Eaton Apothecary, Quebrada Bakery, Whole Foods Market, Blockbuster, and this daycare place just down the street from where I live.

If Brigham's survives until I get a full time job, then great. I hope Brigham's lasts for a while actually. I love Brigham's. I'm way too attached to it. It's like my second home, sadly enough.

I'm working at my internship in Boston until the end of December. Hopefully, I can find a full time job by then. If not, then I will work two part-time jobs until I do. I'm pretty sure something will turn up next year. Well, that's if the economy is better in 2010. *crosses fingers*

Health Insurance

Apparently I qualify for Commonwealth Choice, which is a good thing. I hope I can choose Neighborhood Health Plan again. Almost all of my doctors take NHP. Meds will be really cheap and free co-pay! I'm wicked psyched. This is better than Christmas....well, almost. Lol. But cheap meds and free co-pay is something I definitely need. I can finally get that physical done. I can get my eyes checked so I can get new glasses. I'm long past due for new glasses. I can see my allergist and a dermatologist without worrying about paying hundreds of dollars.

Let's hope I get all the paperwork before I have my physical. I have about one month to verify and get my card.

Burning hot

Today was insanely hot which means everyone wants something to cool them down. Brigham's was beyond out of control tonight. The line was basically out of the door, and we only had very limited flavors by the end of the night. The flavors that we had at 9 p.m. included vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, rainbow sherbet, orange sherbet, big dig, maple walnut, butter pecan, mocha almond, heath bar crunch froyo, and coffee froyo. It was horrible to tell people we were out of basically everything. The good thing is that Meghan and I made $29.25 each in tips, which is pretty sweet.

Tomorrow is going to be another scorcher. I'm dreading taking the T to and from my internship in Boston. At least I'm on the waterfront so hopefully there will be a nice breeze. Two more weeks of the internship before the fall internship starts. I renewed my internship for the fall. Hopefully the experience will eventually lead me to a job somewhere within a year. My goal is to score a full time job before next May.

Things are improving

Mom is getting better which is definitely good. Job hunt is still meh and I'm playing the waiting game for health insurance processing. I hope I can get at least a good health insurance plan that covers meds, ER, doctor's visits, and basic necessities like that.

The job hunt is harder than I thought. When I started looking for an internship in October, I didn't know it will take till May to score an internship. I started looking for a job in February/March. I might have to get it some more time...like at least till winter in order to find something half way decent. My expectations are too high. I should lower them.

When things go well, things always get worse

Everything was going really well after graduation until I realized that my health insurance is running out. I have till July 31, 2009 before I'm health insurance less. And to make it worst, my mom hasn't been feeling better for two weeks. She's so sick she had to take the whole week off from work this week. She has some kind of painful pressure in her ears. Her ear infection went away, but I think she has eustachian tube dysfunction. None of the doctors can figure out what's wrong. All my sister and I can do is basically go to work and take care of her at home after work. I would stay home 24/7, but I need to work to save some money to pay bills for the days she can't work. I don't know what to do.

I mean I don't mind walking to the T station or walking to Brigham's or back home from either of those places. I know it's my fault for not having a driving license as well. But even if I had one, I have no car to drive since I have to leave a car for my mom at home just in case she needs to go out to get some air. Plus, having one really old car, we have to make sure nothing happens to it. Even if I have a permit, I can't drive unless someone is 21-years-old or over. I wouldn't trust myself driving even if I had a license. I'm not that confident to drive yet even though I took 10 lessons and practiced a lot.

I think if my family didn't have financial problems, we can do so much more to better our lives. I mean my mom's health insurance limits the amount of doctors she can see. Thank goodness she doesn't have my health insurance. Mine doesn't cover any doctor's visits at all...just meds and ER.

I hope everything will get better. I know things have to get bad before they get better. It's always like that, unfortunately.

RENT Opening Night

Thursday, July 16, 2009 was RENT's opening night. All I can say that the musical was amazing! Loved it. It was breathtaking. The after party was a nice way to end the night. The cast was there, RENT's producer, a few of us from Playbill, etc.

I have to give thanks to my boss, Rita, and her boss, Tim, for letting me attend the night's festivities. It was a nice token of appreciation.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

What can I say? I love Harry Potter but the movie was disappointing. I was okay with the smaller changes within the whole entire movie due to less character introductions, but completely botching the ending is NOT okay.

The beginning was eh...the unbreakable vow scene was meh. Bellatrix in the movie egged Snape to do the unbreakable vow when it was in fact Narcissa who suggested in the book. Oh yeah, when did Narcissa become Cruella Deville? She had bleach blond and very dark brown hair like a reverse skunk. She was even that pretty. Narcissa is suppose to be very beautiful despite her snobbish ways. Helena who played Bellatrix was marvelous. Love her character. Evanna who plays Luna is also superb.

The girl who played Pansy was eh. The previous girl was more suitable for the part. Speaking of who is suitable for each position, the girl that plays Lavender is so obnoxious annoying. I did not picture her like that at all. In the book, she's Parvati's best friend who gossips and is into fashion. Let me tell you that the Lavender in the movie has a horrible sense of fashion. The only good scene with Lavender was when she visited Ron at the Hospital Wing after drinking the poisoned mead.

The actor who played Cormac was hilarious. The things he says about Hermione and his actions during the Slug Club was great. Speaking of Slug Club, the actor that played Slughorn wasn't that bad. I mean the scene with the poisoned mead could have been better, but it was decent. Slughorn's year six potion's class definitely did not include all those people. I mean there were suppose to be only like four Gryffindors: Seamus, Harry, Ron, and Hermione. When was Romilda in it? She's definitely not in his year. And why is "Lav Lav" there?

And when did Ginny take Harry to the Room of Requirement and telling him to close his eyes so she could snog him? Ginny and Harry snog after the victory of the final Quidditch game. Harry disposes the potions book himself.

Why did Dumbledore and Harry apparate from Hogwarts? When they apparated back and when Harry was still roaming around among his free will, I knew the ending was going to be a goner. No invisibility cloak? Snape telling Harry to shush with his actions? The Battle of the Astronomy Tower was not really a battle. A bunch of Death Eaters arrived to the top of the tower and Snape finishes off Dumbledore. The Dark Mark is suppose to be in the sky prior to the death of Dumbledore, not after. And when did Dumbledore keep on falling after he got Avada Kedavraed? And no funeral for the poor old man? The shame. Afterward, Harry basically chases after the Death Eaters and lands near Hagrid's house where Bellatrix lights it on fire. I understand that in the book, the hut is lit and Harry and Snape ends up dueling on the grounds, but they are missing a crucial scene here.

And speaking of fire, the scene when the Burrow gets ignited. WTF? Harry running after Bellatrix and Ginny following behind. That was messed up. When did Ginny start being so "Let me feed you a cookie and tie your shoes" kind of girl? Blah.

Back to the battle. I see no battle. Where is the DA fighting the "other" Death Eaters? Where is the Order? Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder is used by Harry on the Hogwarts Express in the beginning of the movie instead of Draco using it at the end of the movie. "According to David Heyman, the Battle of the Lightning-Struck Tower was left out of the sixth film because, as there is another battle at Hogwarts (the actual Battle of Hogwarts) in the eighth film, they are trying to avoid repetition." I say WTF? It won't be repetitive. The Battle of Hogwarts is totally different from this one. The Battle of Hogwarts is more intense, more fierce, and there are more causalities. The Battle of Hogwarts is Life or Death!

Too bad there wasn't a scene with the Gaunts. That would have been neat to see. Speaking of Gaunt, Tom Riddle's actor wasn't as excellent as Christian Coulson who played Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets movie. However, the scenes with Tom Riddle were definitely creepy and eerie. I think that the scene with the falling bridge can be xed out. I was like, where's Spiderman to save everyone. Lol.

The best scene is probably during the trip to the cave. Very powerful stuff here. Definitely a keeper. So the pros: good cave scene, good character development on Luna's, Bellatrix's, and even the Trio's parts, and definitely a yay to the Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes shop.

The rant ends here.

Loving the internship

So far my internship is awesome. I go in between 9:30-10 and leave at 5, get 30-60 minutes of lunch, and get to do a lot of fun projects. The other two interns and I researched companies that might be able to sponsor one of our events. We ended up cold calling at least 50 companies, but some of them are calling us back being interested. Good news for us. We started RENT promotion already at the Copley Place and Prudential. My boss asked me to come up with designs for a new logo for New Venture Media Group and business cards. Ian and Laura, the other interns, will be working with me till August. We three have to have a media kit done by Tuesday to send to potential sponsors. I'm so glad that within my first week of the internship, I actually get to do REAL work and get REAL experience. I can't wait to build my portfolio.

Other working Tuesday-THursday at Panorama/Playbill, I work at Brigham's Friday-Monday. It's a lot of work but I need the money from Brigham's since the internship is unpaid.

Life gets harder before it gets any better

So my internship starts next week. I will be working at least 40 hours a week and only getting paid for about 20 since I will be working at Brigham's and at the internship. I have no days off until September unless I request days off for the Brigham's job. However, less days means less pay.

On the other note, the residence where I live now is checking our credit reports, savings and checking accounts, etc and we cannot exceed a certain amount of debt and savings. This really blows because if I get a full time job, I'm putting my mom at risk to losing this apartment. I swear that the system punishes us all the time. Just when we get up back on our feet, someone knocks us down again. My family has been struggling for years, and we probably have to move out within a year or so. I might move out sooner than I thought. If I get a full time job before June 2010, I have to move out because my family will be "making too much." I figure that I'll get an apartment or something with a couple other people. I don't want my mom to get kicked out of the apartment, and I don't want to risk my sister's chances of getting her scholarships. We need to stay in this town in order for her to get her scholarships for college. Blah. The system won't let us rise in status. They just keep us where we are, and we can't get ahead.

I'll start looking for a place probably end of August, just in case. You never know. I might get a full time job and when I do, I need to move out, not because I WANT to but because I HAVE to.

Summer is not bad at all

So I start at Panorama/Playbill on June 2nd. It's an unpaid internship, but I will learn a lot from it. Maybe I can even get a job from this internship if I put a lot of work into the position. I'm also working at Brigham's part-time. I'm working about 21 hours at Panorama/Playbill and about 20 hours give or take at Brigham's until I can get a full-time job. It's not that bad.

The past couple weeks weren't that bad. I had no finals during finals week, I went to NH for a few days, graduated from SSC, went to two days of Anime Boston dressed up as Sailor Saturn, hung out with some North Shore friends, etc. Not bad at all. I was even able to go to my best friend's grad party. I hope life after college still stays strong.

Post College

So, I'm done with undergrad. Grades are already out too.

Biology of Whales: A-
Advertising Case Studies: A-
Communications Seminar: A
Writing for Corporations: A
Travel Writing: A

GPA Cumulative: 3.6 something

Now, I just need to look for a entry level job that is full time, has health insurance, etc. All I have lined up is working at Brigham's till I find something. I might have to do an unpaid internship until I find an actual job. Most entry level jobs want experienced grads. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced enough. I was not able to do an internship during college since most wanted more than two days a week and I had classes everyday but my last semester. However, my last semester consisted of Tuesday and Thursdays off and two days is apparently not enough time to do an internship, according to most internship programs. Also, most internships are unpaid. I need cash to pay bills. Without any income, I won't be able to pay for my cell phone bill, for groceries, etc.

Since I am graduating this year, I'm expected to pay $200-300 a month just for loans. That is not including the phone bill, the electricity bill, and groceries. I need to make at least $600 bucks a month to have enough to pay for stuff and have some money to save. I might have to do the two jobs and unpaid internship route if I don't get the Peabody Essex Museum's MAC internship, which is paid full time $12 an hour. If I get the paid internship, I will work full time (40 hours) at PEM Monday-Friday and work at Brigham's on the weekends. If I get the unpaid, part-time Panorama one, I will work at Panorama three weekdays and work at Brigham's three to four weekdays/weekend days. If I don't get any internships, I will work at Brigham's and get a second part-time job.

I definitely won't be able to see people too much because there is not enough time in a week. I wish there were more hours in a week so I can relax. Job hunting is sooo annoying and hard. It's definitely more selective than applying to college and getting in. At least I know I will get into something. With a job, there are way too many people competing for that one position.

My plan is to stay at home probably until when I'm 25-26. It will give me a few years to save up money to get a place of my own. I definitely need to secure a job before moving. Blah...I'm missing college already. At least there, I didn't have to worry about what I'm going to do when I have no school. I'm good at school. That's all I know how to do since I've been doing it for most of my life. I don't know how to work outside of that, unless you include ice cream. But I don't want to work with ice cream for the rest of my life.
